Food Fun Friday - Fall Scene

I was totally inspired to create this plate from a meal I saw on Pinterest from Meet the Dubiens.  I have added my own touches based on what I had available and what I know my kids will eat.  For instance, the house in the inspiration is a chicken sandwich.  In my wildest dreams my kids would eat a chicken sandwich.  In real life, not so much.  So I made some substitutions.  Use whatever you have around you to build off your inspiration.

Lets start with the house.  I used wheat bread with the crusts cut off.  I cut the bread to look like a house and used the crusts as a roof and chimney.  I found a cool cinnamon sugar spread by Land O Lakes while I was shopping yesterday.  I love cinnamon sugar as you might recall, and so I could not pass this up.  I spread it on my bread house and I think it gives it a nice color.  The bread might look toasted, but that is just the spread.

I used fruit leather for the small window and door.  Since it is Fall, the fireplace is on at the house and there is marshmallow smoke coming out of the chimney.  Lastly, I added a sun to our Fall scene.  I made this using a cookie cutter and a slice of American cheese.

My picky girls love fruit, so I wanted to make sure there was plenty on the plate.  I cut these giant grapes I got at Target to make the grass and used a medley of fruit for the leaves on the tree.  The tree is made of a pretzel rod and cut plums, apples and clementines.

This plate can morph with the seasons, you just need to change up the tree.  So Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall...I hope your kids will eat it all.  Mine, of course, did not.

  5. We do Fun Food Friday at our house too! I found Jill's blog about a year ago and adopted her fun idea for my own kids.
I actually did a version of the tree a couple weeks ago. I've got all ours under the Silly Kid Lunches tab on my sidebar if you ever want to check them out. I also have Our Silly Kid Lunches Pinterest board and a Kid Lunch Ideas board of other people's fun stuff on another board if you're ever lookin' for ideas.
My kids love it and I love all the ideas Jill posts at Meet The Dubiens! Especially her new bento posts on the weekends. Yours turned out super, super cute. Love it. It's goin' on my board. :o)
