Today I am sharing a craft for mommies! It is kid related though since I making these Christmas Coasters for my kids' teachers. But anyone would enjoy these and if you are looking for gift ideas, look no further. I might make a few extra sets to have on hand for those last minute gifts. I have seen them in various places like The Cottage Home and they seemed easy enough to make.
Supplies you will need:
- Scrapbook paper
- Mod Podge
- Ceramic bathroom tiles
- Small felt disks with adhesive backs
I bought my scrapbook paper at Michael’s with a 40% off coupon because that’s how I roll. I bought a book of holiday themed paper that I think I will use for lots of projects. The ceramic tiles can be found at any home improvement store and I believe mine were 16 cents each.
Cut your scrapbook paper into 3.75 by 3.75 inch squares.
Next, spread a thin layer of Mod Podge on your tile with the brush. Place the square of scrapbook paper in the center. You will have a small tile border on the edges. Just make sure it is squarely (pun intended) in the middle of the tile. I used my ruler to smooth out the paper and make sure there were no bubbles. When that dries you will want to paint a layer of Mod Podge on top. Wait 15 minutes and paint on another layer. Then wait another 15 minutes for that to dry and add you third and final layer of Mod Podge.
I used a brush to apply to Mod Podge and I think I will use a sponge brush in the future because I am not sure what I think of the fact that you can see a bit of the brush strokes on the finished product. Hubby liked it with the brush strokes because he thought it made the paper look more like fabric. So try both and see what you prefer.
When your tiles are completely dry, turn them over and pop some felt disks on the bottom, one in each corner. This will prevent your tiles from scratching a table.
And there you have it! Wrap with a pretty bow and you have a great, affordable gift.
