I was so excited to receive a copy of Asia Citro’s new book, 150+ Screen-Free Activities for Kids! If you have followed Asia’s blog, Fun at Home with Kids, then you now why. Asia comes up with the most fun kids activities and play recipes you can imagine. In her new book, she shares over 150 ideas
for play and fun for babies, toddlers and older kids. You’ll find new and inventive recipes for doughs, slimes and paints that you can make using items you probably already have at home.
The sensory recipes in 150+ Screen-Free Activities for Kids have been big hits in our house. Among our favorites are Simple Two-Ingredient Slime (such squishy fun!) and the Melting Ice Cream Dough (really looks like ice cream!) Each activity comes with a handy guide that lets you know if the activity contains allergens, dyes or is taste safe.
Before I really had a chance to look at the book, my four year old grabbed it. She was intrigued by the beautiful, colorful photos of kids having fun. She asked if we could make the Easy Dough recipe from the book.
When I saw that prep time was 5 minutes, I was sold. I mean how can you not love an activity that takes 5 minutes to set up? Plus it only required a few ingredients which I already had on hand.
I think it may have taken even less than 5 minutes to create this fun play recipe that the kids can enjoy again and again. To find out how to make your own Easy Dough, get your hands on a copy of 150+ Screen-Free Activities for Kids.
I added in some cups, a spoon for scooping and some plastic bugs I had lying around and my daughter played happily for 40 minutes.
When she was done, I was able to store the Easy Dough for future play. It is so versatile that you can just add different toys and small items it to completely change up the play experience.
One thing that really stood out for me in 150+ Screen-Free Activities for Kids were the thoughtful explanations Asia offers. She goes into the benefits of various types of play. You learn a lot just reading those sections of the book. With the holidays around the corner, I think this would make a great gift for a new mom. Asia goes into all the benefits of baby play and give many fun ideas for babies. As the child grows, the activities in the book will grow with them. This book will be a go-to for moms through many ages and stages of a child’s life.
