We recently had the chance to experience The MoodstersTM toys. The Moodsters have been created to educate, entertain, and enhance the social and emotional development of children. Most parents want their children to develop social and emotional skills, but may be unsure about how to explore those skills and open up a dialogue with their kids. Enter The Moodsters! My child is most open to learning when she is having fun, and these toys have certainly been a fun way for to learn about emotions.
Targeted to preschoolers, The Moodsters are comprised of five lovable detectives that help kids solve the mysteries of feelings. They do this through having the characters and situations be ones that kids can relate to.
The Moodsters brand was developed by Denise Daniels who is the CEO & Founder of JellyJam Entertainment. Daniels, a Peabody award-winning broadcast journalist, is also an expert in parenting and child development and an author who specializes in the social and emotional development of children.
Many parents have heard of emotional intelligence (EQ). EQ is the ability to recognize, understand and manage one’s emotions and it can have a lifelong positive effect on children’s behavior, school success, ability to develop empathy, and physical and emotional well-being. The Moodsters can help with teaching EQ because they give children a vocabulary for their feelings, help them understand their big emotions, and provide simple strategies to help kids handle the ups and downs of everyday life.
My daughter has been having so much fun with The Moodster Mirror! Most kids I know love looking at themselves in a mirror and making silly faces. Well, The Moodster Mirror takes that to a whole new level. It is an electronic talking mirror that helps kids recognize their feelings and understand that there is a connection between how you feel on the inside and what your face looks like on the outside.
My daughter had lots of fun making happy, sad, angry and loving faces in The Moodster Mirror.
After playing with The Moodster Mirror, my daughter and I starting talking about her feelings and what her face actually looks like when she feels different things. She was surprised to see how her expression looked when she got angry. Now I see that look plenty when I tell her she can’t do something, but she has never seen what she looks like when angry. I think it was a real eye opener for her.
The Moodster Mirror comes with a 32-page storybook, “A Time to Be Kind”. This sweet story includes The Moodster characters and explores the meaning of friendship. It is a wonderful book to read with your child and one we have been enjoying again and again.
My kids have a slight obsession with plush toys. We have bins and bins full of cuddly friends. So naturally, when my daughter saw The Moodsters Talking Plush and Activity Book featuring Quigly, she was excited.
There are Moodsters Talking Plush Characters for each of the five Moodsters detectives. The Moodster detectives personify common emotions that all children feel in their everyday lives. Coz personifies happiness, Lolly is all about love, Quigly deals with fear, Razzy with anger and Snorf with sadness. Each plush character, when squeezed, shares sayings and suggestions specific to the emotions they represent. Each plush friend also comes with a 32-page activity book that helps kids learn about emotions in a fun and engaging way. My daughter insists that we collect them all!
Quigly was the perfect toy for my daughter. She has some big fears about bugs, and bees in particular, and sometimes being outside can be stressful for her. We brought Quigly outside and when my daughter saw a bee, she just hugged Quigly and he said reassuring comments to her such as “when I feel scared, I tell myself, be brave!”
But the fun wasn’t over yet! We’ve had a blast with the sticker activity book that came with Quigly. There were mysteries to solve, mazes to explore and did I mention the stickers? The stickers were a big hit!
