🍀Why this Shamrock Lacing Card is awesome

• This craft works on fine motor skills as it requires hole punching and beading.
• Punching holes is really a great way to strengthen hand muscles.
• Makes a fun St. Patrick's Day decoration
• Can be done with simple supplies you may already have at home

🖍️Supply Notes

• Paper plate - the base of this St Patty's day craft
• Yarns in rainbow colors - we used red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet yarn.
• Scissors - for cutting out the pot of gold
• Hole puncher - this is necessary to make the holes to string the yarn and beads through
• Markers: black and green - to color the pot and grass
• Yellow pony beads - these will represent the gold coins in the pot
• Pencil - to draw the pot pattern
• Tape - to wrap around the end of the yarn to make threading easier

📋Step by step instructions

STEP 1: Fold a white paper plate in half. Most paper plates have a ridged border. Trace the border to form the inside circle. You can make a pot of gold by drawing a circle with a long skinny triangle on top. Any shaped pot will do, so don't stress so much about this part. Just make sure the top rim is large enough to have room for 6 hole punches.

STEP 2: Cut out the pot of gold shape with scissors.

STEP 3: Using the hole punch, punch 6 holes along the top of the pot of gold while the plate is folded in half. You'll need one hole for each color you will be using. Then hole punch along the inside circle of the plate. Older kids can help with this step.

STEP 4: Unfold the plate.

STEP 5: Using the green and black markers, color the pot of gold black and the bottom green for the grass.

STEP 6: To start lacing, begin with the red yarn on the first pot of gold hole and thread through and tie to secure.

STEP 7: Then thread through the border hole on the back of the pot.

STEP 8: Sporadically add a yellow pony bead to the yarn before threading it back through the next hole. When finished, the beads will look like gold filling the pot.

STEP 9: Use this technique with all the colors of yarn. Each color will have its own hole at the top of the pot of gold. Secure each end on the back with a knot.

STEP 10: When you are done with the last color, secure it on the back of the plate with a knot.

When the rainbow pattern is done, the pot of gold craft is complete and ready to be hung up for St. Patrick's Day!

This St. Patrick's Day activity will keep kids busy for some time as they thread to create some beautiful art.

✂️Expert Tips

Tip 1: For an added pop of color, place a piece of background paper behind the completed craft. We used blue construction paper. You can use cardstock as well.

Tip 2: When you draw the pot initially on the paper plate, make sure the top rim is large enough to have room for 6 hole punches.

Tip 3: To make threading easier, wrap the end of the yarn in tape.
