Typically, a Monte Cristo sandwich is dipped in egg and fried. To eliminate this cumbersome step, I have used a waffle maker instead. That's right, a waffle maker can be used to make amazing sandwiches!

Butter two slices of bread on one side.

Place one buttered side of bread down on waffle maker. Top the bread with Swiss cheese

Add sliced ham on top of the Swiss cheese.

Butter another piece of bread and add it to the top of the ham with the butter side up.

Close the waffle maker and cook the sandwich in waffle maker until bread is crispy and cheese is melted.

You can dust with powdered sugar and top with syrup or serve with syrup on the side for dipping.
