I love a good Monte Cristo sandwich, but it can be labor intensive to make. What do you do when you don’t have the time to make one, but you still want to enjoy the flavor of a Monte Cristo? You use a few simple shortcuts to make an easy Monte Cristo Sandwich. Let me show you the tricks to having this delicious sandwich at home!
MONTE CRISTO SANDWICH
Typically, a Monte Cristo sandwich is dipped in egg and fried. To eliminate this cumbersome step, I have used a waffle maker instead. That’s right, a waffle maker can be used to make amazing sandwiches! Check out my favorite waffle maker.
MONTE CRISTO INGREDIENTS
- sliced bread, basic sandwich bread works best
- sliced deli Swiss cheese
- sliced deli ham
- butter, softened
- fresh berries, if desired
- powdered sugar for dusting
HOW TO MAKE AN EASY MONTE CRISTO
Turn on you waffle maker. Butter both slices of bread on one side. We will be using butter in place of dipping the sandwich in egg. Place buttered side of bread down on waffle maker.
Some people spread mayonnaise and mustard on the other side of the bread, and the sandwich tastes great this way too.
Top the bread with Swiss cheese.
Add sliced ham on top of the Swiss cheese.
Butter another piece of bread and add it to the top of the ham with the butter side up.
Close the waffle maker and cook the sandwich in waffle maker until bread is crispy and cheese is melted.
Carefully remove the sandwich from waffle maker.
You can dust with powdered sugar and top with syrup or serve with syrup on the side for dipping.
This sandwich is best served warm. Enjoy!
You can also cook this on the stove top but using a waffle maker is super easy, plus I just love the grill marks.
