Are you looking for the perfect treat for the 4th of July? Look no further than these melt-in-your-mouth Red White and Blue Cookies with M&Ms. Soft sugar cookies filled with colorful M&M's, make a great dessert for a patriotic celebration.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, cream softened butter, with white and brown sugar. I used a handheld mixer but a stand mixer would work as well. Mix on medium speed for two minutes, until the mixture is incorporated and fluffy. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, whisk together all purpose flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add egg and vanilla to the bowl that you set aside with the butter and sugar mixture. Beat in the egg and vanilla until combined.
Slowly incorporate the flour mixture into the bowl with the wet ingredients. Add a little at a time using a mixer to blend until the flour is completely mixed in.
Add red white and blue M&M's and chocolate chips and mix in by hand.
Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Drop rounded tablespoons full of dough onto the parchment paper a few inches apart. Press a few M&M's onto the top of each cookie. Sprinkle some red white and blue sprinkles on to the tops of the cookies.
Bake cookies for 8-10 minutes or until the edges start to brown. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them sit for a few minutes then move to a cooling rack.
As you mix the candy into the dough, take care not to break up any of the M&M candies as this will result in the color spreading throughout the dough
