Materials

  • Colored Popsicle sticks
  • Glitter multiple colors
  • Glue and brush
  • Pom poms
  • Ribbon

Instructions

  • Have an adult craft snowflakes using four Popsicle sticks. Although children can assemble these with white glue, be aware that drying will take time.
  • Once constructed, let your child "paint" the snowflakes with glue, ensuring one side is completely covered. Then, allow them to sprinkle glitter over the glued surface. Set the glittered snowflakes aside to dry.
  • After drying, attach a ribbon to the back and let the children hang their handmade ornaments on the Christmas tree.
  • You can also create Christmas tree ornaments with similar materials. Have an adult use a glue gun to form a tree shape from green Popsicle sticks. For the smaller branches, break the sticks in half, and trim any rough edges.
  • Allow the children to decorate their Popsicle stick Christmas trees with glue and pom-poms. Finally, attach a ribbon to the back for easy hanging.

Notes

  • If you’re using hot glue to make the ornaments (adults only), they’ll last for years.
  • To keep things tidy, try doing this craft on a large tray and use glitter shakers. They keep the mess in check and are fun for kids to shake.
  • Keep an eye on younger kids, especially with glue, scissors, or glitter. Make sure to use non-toxic glue and child-safe craft materials.
