This is super exciting day at Mess for Less because I am announcing the debut of my new book Today is Great - A Daily Gratitude Journal for Kids! A lot of time, work and research went into this book, so I am thrilled to finally be able to give you a sneak peak into it and share some parenting tips.
BENEFITS OF A GRATITUDE JOURNAL
Everyone is talking about gratitude these days, and with good reason. Many studies have shown that being grateful and showing gratitude actually increases happiness and contentedness. It's hard to believe that simply slowing down, taking a look around, and noting the things that you're grateful for could have such a profound effect.
I've been keeping a gratitude journal for a long time, and it has made a big difference in my life. Just the simple process of being able to take a breath, slow down, and notice the things around me that I might take for granted has made a big impact.
After seeing the effect that a gratitude journal had on me, I was inspired to create one for kids. After all, kids can be so busy just living their lives between school, sports, and extracurricular activities, that they often don't have time to just slow down and notice what's right in front of them. Today is Great will actually give kids that opportunity.
WHAT MAKES TODAY IS GREAT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER GRATITUDE JOURNALS
But Today is Great is more than just a gratitude journal. Sure it has a fresh, clean space to write what you are grateful for each day. But that is just the beginning. Today is Great also inspires kids by providing gratitude challenges that allow them to do something nice for someone else that will in turn make that person more grateful. So they are being inspired to spread the gratitude. There are also weekly questions such as what is your favorite memory or different things to really get your kid thinking and writing. Anything that gets kids writing more is a good thing in my book! Plus, I've also included some of my favorite quotes about gratitude from famous figures that I think will really resonate with kids.
WHO IS THIS BOOK FOR?
Today is Great is a perfect book for kids ages 7 through 10, though my 11 year olds and their friends love it as well. I wrote it with all kids in mind, and so it was important for me to create something that really would appeal to a variety of ages.

MAKES A GREAT GIFT
Today is Great makes a great gift, in fact many friends told me they are stocking up on them to give out as birthday gifts throughout the year. I just love that idea! Gift this book with some colorful pens or pencils and start a lifelong habit of gratitude. Is there any better gift than that?
