- Glue gun
- Grosgrain ribbon – I used 3/8 of an inch wide
- Some kind of lighter
- Flowers or embellishments
- Silver hair clips
The grosgrain ribbon that I use is 3/8 of an inch wide and can usually be found at the dollar store or at Michael’s for $1. I have it in all colors and patterns. I picked up the silver hair clips at a local hair supply store.
Cut your ribbon 6 1/2 inches long.
Use the lighter to seal the edges of the ribbon. Just hold it briefly near the edge until you notice it melting a bit. I don’t have a photo of me doing this because, well, you trying playing with fire and taking a photo. But here is what it looks like when it’s done. This will keep the ribbon from fraying.
Use your hot glue gun to place a strip of glue on the inside bottom of the open clip. I used too much glue here. You will want to use a little less. I like to use enough glue so that I don’t have to put any under it when I wrap the ribbon around it.
Now I have taken the ribbon and stuck it to the glue on the bottom prong.
These are the pretty felt flowers I scored for 29 cents! Sure to dress up any outfit. Just glue them on the top of the clip using the hot glue and you are good to go!
Finally, here is Little C, rocking her clip.
Making your own hair clips is an easy way to save some money. Keep your eyes open because you never know when you might find some inspiration.
