Homemade Christmas Ornaments
Making homemade Christmas ornaments with kids is such a fun and rewarding activity for the whole family. It’s a chance to get creative together as you paint and glue.
While you’re having fun, kids are also learning. They get to work on their fine motor skills and following directions. It can also be a time to teach them about family and holiday traditions. And there’s something really special about hanging up ornaments they made themselves.

- Glitter - Adds that magical sparkle every holiday craft needs.

Kids Homemade Christmas Ornaments
Have an adult construct snowflakes out of four Popsicle sticks. You could have your kids do this with white glue, but drying will take time.
Have your child "paint" their snowflakes with glue. Make sure all of one side of the snowflake is covered in glue.
Let kids shake the glitter over the glue-covered snowflake.
Let the kid made Christmas ornaments dry.
When the snowflakes are dry, glue some ribbon to the back and let the kids hang them up on the Christmas tree.
You can also make Christmas tree ornaments using similar supplies. To do that, an adult can use a glue gun to construct a Christmas tree out of green popsicle sticks.
For the smaller branches, the sticks were broken in half. If there are any jagged edges, you can just cut them off.
Let kids decorate the popsicle stick Christmas tree with glue and pom poms.
Add some ribbon on the back for easy hanging.
Tips For Making Ornaments
Tip 1: If you use hot glue to construct the ornaments (adults only), they will last for years to come.
Tip 2: To help contain the mess, do this craft on a large tray and use glitter shakers. Having the glitter in a shaker helps to keep the mess in one place and they're also fun for kids to shake.
Tip 3: Supervise younger kids, especially when using items like glue, scissors, or glitter. Use non-toxic glue and craft materials labeled safe for children.
FAQs For Kid Made Christmas Ornaments
What can I do if I don't have colored Popsicle sticks?
You can use normal wood-colored popsicle sticks for this craft. You can have your child paint them with kid-safe paint or leave them as is since you will be jazzing them up with tons of colorful glitter anyway.
How can kids of different ages make ornaments together?
Younger kids can focus on simpler tasks like sticking pom poms or sprinkling glitter, while older kids can tackle more detailed steps like cutting shapes or arranging intricate designs.
How can I store the ornaments for next year?
Once the ornaments are completely dry, wrap them in bubble wrap and store them in a sturdy box. Label the box clearly and keep it in a safe, dry spot to enjoy these keepsakes for many holidays to come.
