Have you had a chance to experience a hot cocoa bomb yet? If you have, you know how much fun it can be to make a delicious cup of hot cocoa. If you haven't, you're in luck! I'm sharing an M&M Hot Chocolate Bomb Recipe so you can make these treats at home.

This M&M Hot Chocolate Bomb Recipe from Mess for Less is a fun way to enjoy hot cocoa. Why pay a fortune for hot chocolate bombs when you can make them at home?

What makes this M&M hot chocolate recipe awesome

If you don't know what hot cocoa bombs are, they are balls of hollow chocolate that have been filled with hot cocoa mix and other treats, and then decorated.

When hot milk is poured on these, they dissolve and reveal the hot cocoa and treats. This hot chocolate bomb recipe will make 6 hot chocolate bombs filled with M&Ms. Each bomb can be made using 8 oz of hot milk. If you love M&Ms, check out this M&M Cookies Recipe!

    Ingredients

    • Chocolate chips
    • Hot Cocoa Bomb Silicone Mold
    • Hot Cocoa Powder (I like to use the mix that already has mini marshmallows in it)
    • Miniature M&M’s
    • Decorating Bag
ingredients for m&m hot chocolate bombs

HOW TO MAKE HOT CHOCOLATE BOMBS WITH M&M's

To make these adorable hot chocolate bombs, start by placing 2 cups of chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the chocolate chips on 50% power for 3-5 minutes. Stir every 30 seconds until the chips have melted.

    melted chocolate in a bowl

Scoop the chocolate into the half circles on the silicone mold using a spoon. Spread the chocolate evenly onto the entire cavity until it is  completely coated in the melted chocolate. Use 2 molds to make 12 half circles of chocolate.

Carefully, place the silicone molds into a freezer for 2-3 minutes and then remove when hardened. Reheat the melted chocolate chips and add a second layer of melted chocolate to the half circles, especially around the edges.

Freeze the chocolate in the mold again for another minute.

Carefully remove the chocolate from the silicone molds.

Now it is time to fill the hot cocoa bombs. Add 1 tablespoon of hot chocolate mix and several mini M&M’s to six of the half circles.

hot cocoa powder in a chocolate sphere

Once the hot cocoa bombs are filled, it is time to close and seal them. Reheat the chocolate chips if they have hardened and add 4 tablespoons of the melted chocolate to a decorating bag.

Cut a small tip off the decorating bag and frost the edge of one half chocolate circle. Add an empty chocolate circle on top to make a sphere and hold it in place for 15 seconds. The chocolate will act as a glue to hold both sides together.

Place hot cocoa bombs onto a plate and drizzle with the remaining melted chocolate from the decorating bag.  Top with mini M&M’s which will stick to the melted chocolate.

When the chocolate has hardened, these are ready to use! Place an M&M Hot Chocolate Bomb into a mug and pour warm or hot milk over the top. Watch the bomb melt and stir to combine. Enjoy your treat and share with a friend!
