⭐Why This Recipe Works
- This is one of my favorite Christmas cookie recipes because it combines the fresh flavors of candy canes with the classic soft sugar cookie.
- You don't have to chill the dough for this recipe which makes it super easy.
- The candy canes give the cookies a burst of peppermint flavor.
🥣Ingredient Notes
- Granulated sugar - Adds sweetness and helps the cookies spread.
- Brown sugar - Moisture in the brown sugar helps the cookies to be soft and chewy.
- Butter - This recipe calls for softened butter.
- White chocolate chips - Helps the crushed candy canes to stick to the cookie.
- Candy canes - Add a peppermint flavor and crunch.
📋Step by Step Instructions
STEP 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
STEP 2: In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
STEP 3: In a large bowl, combine sugar, light brown sugar and butter with a mixer until thoroughly combined. I used a stand mixer for this step, but you can use an electric mixer as well.
STEP 4: Add a large egg and vanilla to the butter and sugar mixture and mix until combined. Scrape the side of the bowl as you are doing this step.
STEP 5: Add the dry ingredients to the larger bowl with the wet ingredients and mix until it turns into a dough.
STEP 6: Use a cookie scoop or measure the dough into 1 ½ heaping tablespoons. Place the dough on the parchment paper.
STEP 7: Use the underside of a cup to flatten out the cookie dough.
STEP 8: Bake for 7-8 minutes. Remove cookies from the oven before they start to brown.
STEP 9: Let cookies cool on a cooling rack. While cookies are cooling, remove the wrapper and place the candy canes in a zip top bag and seal. Crush the candy canes by using a rolling pin. Leave some large chunks intact.
STEP 10: Melt chocolate chips in small batches in the microwave according to package directions.
STEP 11: Dip the cookies in the melted white chocolate or spoon the white chocolate on half of the cookie.
STEP 12: Sprinkle with crushed candy cane pieces.
STEP 13: Let the chocolate harden and then these candy cane cookies are ready to eat!
