Easy Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipes for Kids

Chocolate chip cookies are perfect for baking with kids because the steps are simple and hands-on. Kids get to measure and mix as they create these treats. They're a fun way to teach basic kitchen skills and to enjoy delicious cookies. Here are some of our favorite cookies:

Key Ingredients for Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie

    • Butter: Softened butter helps create a light, fluffy texture when creamed with sugar. Room temperature is key. If it is too cold, it won't mix well, and if it is too melted, the cookie will be greasy.
    • Brown Sugar: Adds moisture and chewiness. I used light brown sugar, but dark brown will also work.
    • Eggs: Use large eggs, at room temperature. Cold eggs can cause the batter to separate slightly.
    • Flour: Spoon and level the flour when you are measuring it to avoid adding too much flour, which can cause cookies to be dry.
    • Milk Chocolate Chips: Melt into gooey pockets of chocolate and offer a creamier bite than semisweet chips. You can also chop up a milk chocolate bar if you want larger chunks!
    • Vanilla Ice Cream (optional): A warm skillet cookie + cold ice cream = dessert magic. I highly recommend it!

Kitchen Tools for Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet

To make this giant cookie, you'll need a cast-iron skillet. This is the secret that gives it crisp edges while keeping the center soft and gooey. A stand mixer or hand mixer makes creaming the butter and sugars quick and easy!

How To Make This Pizookie Recipe

    1. Preheat the oven: Start by preheating your oven to 325°F. I like to do this first so it's ready to go when the dough is done.

    2. Mix the dry ingredients: In one bowl, whisk together your flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.

    3. Cream the butter and sugars: In a stand mixer or using a hand mixer, beat the softened butter with the brown and white sugars until it's light and fluffy. Next, mix in the eggs and vanilla.

    baking

    4. Add it all together: Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet until you've got a thick dough. Then stir in those milk chocolate chips.

    5. Put it all in the skillet: Scoop the dough into a greased medium-sized cast-iron skillet and smooth it out. Don't stress about it looking perfect. It will still be delicious.

    6. Bake: Pop the skillet in the oven and bake until the edges are golden brown and crisp. You'll want the middle to stay slightly soft but the edges to have a little crunch.

    7. Enjoy: Let it cool just a bit, then top with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Tips for Skillet Cookie With Ice Cream

Tip 1: Place your skillet in the warm oven for a minute or two before adding the dough. This helps the bottom of the cookie start to bake right away, giving you a slightly crisp base without overcooking the top.

Tip 2: Mix milk chocolate chips with a handful of semisweet or dark chocolate chips. The contrast adds some flavor surprises.

Tip 3: Let the cookie rest for about 10 minutes after removing it from the oven, so it firms up enough to scoop without falling apart.
