Why this cheeseburger meatloaf recipe is awesome
If you have ever made a meatloaf before, then you know the key to a good meatloaf is using quality beef. Laura’s Lean 92% Ground Beef is just that. Laura’s Lean is a premium, better-for-you beef and comes in 92% ground beef, 96% ground beef and 92% beef patties. It is available at retail stores nationwide.

Ingredients for cheese meatloaf
- 92% Laura’s Lean Ground Beef
- breadcrumbs
- eggs
- chopped red onions
- Worcestershire sauce
- garlic powder
- salt
- pepper
- shredded cheddar cheese
To make this tasty cheeseburger meatloaf recipe you will start with 2 pounds of 92% Laura’s Lean Ground Beef. Using Laura's Lean is what really helps take this meatloaf to the next level. If you have ever made a meatloaf and ended up with a greasy bottom of the pan, you'll appreciate that all products carrying Laura’s Lean claim must meet strict USDA standards to qualify as lean.
Each 4oz serving of Laura’s Lean must contain less than 10g of fat, 4.5g or less of saturated fat and less than 95mg of cholesterol per 100g serving. Since 92% Laura’s Lean Ground Beef is so lean, your meat is not left to cook in its own grease. You might think this would result in a dry meatloaf, but that is not the case at all.
How to make cheeseburger meatloaf
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place your 92% Laura’s Lean Ground Beef in a large bowl and add in breadcrumbs, eggs, onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
Now it is time to mix all the ingredients together. The best way to do this is to just get your hands dirty and dig into the meat mixture. But my daughter wanted to help with dinner, and she didn't want to stick her hands in the bowl, so we were able to stir it with a spatula. It worked fine, but took a little longer than if I had just mixed it by hand.
Once the ingredients have been thoroughly mixed, it is time to place them in a loaf pan.
Divide your mixture in half and pat half into the loaf pan.
Cover the beef mixture with your shredded cheese. You can use cheddar, but I like the flavor of a cheddar/colby mix. Take care to avoid placing cheese on the edges of the meatloaf.
Add the remainder of the beef mixture to the top of the meatloaf, making sure to cover the cheese. If any of the cheese has drifted off to the sides of the pan, you can move it back toward the middle before covering it with the beef. You will want to create a seal around the edges with the beef so the cheese doesn't come out.
When you are done, you shouldn't see any of the cheese.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes and remove from the oven to put on the glaze.
Ingredients for glaze
- mustard
- ketchup
- brown sugar
To make the mustard glaze for the meatloaf, you will need 2 tablespoons of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of mustard and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar. Mix together and brush the meatloaf with the glaze. Place the meatloaf back into the oven for another 10-15 minutes or until the beef reaches a temperature of 160 degrees with a meat thermometer.
When the cooking time has ended, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it sit for 15 minutes. This will keep the cheese and juices from spilling out of the meatloaf when you slice it.
You can really customize this cheeseburger meatloaf. You can top it with BBQ sauce, or add some chopped peppers or bacon bits to the meat. As long as you start with 92% Laura’s Lean Ground Beef, you really can't go wrong. Laura’s Lean 96% Ground Beef is certified through the American Heart Association heart check program and meets USDA standards for “Extra Lean”.
Even after letting the meatloaf rest for 15 minutes before slicing, when you do cut it the cheese will remain melted and gooey.
I served this cheesy meatloaf with some creamy mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli, but it goes wonderfully with fries as well. Add a side of bread and butter pickles and you have recreated your favorite restaurant burger taste!
This easy cheeseburger meatloaf recipe really takes the stress out of dinnertime!
