🧨Why This Craft is Awesome
- This 4th of July game really gets kids moving and laughing. Try it and see for yourself!
- Kids will be kept busy making it and then playing with it when it dries
- Easy to make this 4th of July party game using supplies you probably already have at home.
- This fourth of July game can be made for Independence day or even Memorial day.
🖍️Supply Notes
- Paper plates - Plain white ones
- Red, white and blue paint - Tempera paint
- Large red popsicle sticks - Kids will hold on to these as they swing the paddle
- Masking tape - To attach the popsicle stick
- Red and blue balloons - Kids will try to keep these in the air with their paddles
📋Step by Step Instructions
STEP 1: Have the kids paint red, white and blue stripes on the curved side of two paper plates so the plates have the colors of the American flag. We used different paint brushes for each color so we didn't have to constantly keep cleaning the brushes.
STEP 2: Allow the plates to dry. When they have dried, place a large, heavy book on top of them overnight to prevent them from curling up.
STEP 3: When that is done, use some masking tape to attach the large, red popsicle sticks to the backs of both plates.
Now the paddles for your patriotic game are ready.
Blow up the balloons and you are ready to play! We tried a few variations with this fun patriotic game for kids. One way to play is like a tennis game where the kids swat the balloon back and forth to each other.
My kids burned off lots of energy chasing these balloons around in this patriotic activities. Try this game for kids at your 4th of July gathering!
✂️Expert Tips
Tip 1: A little wind makes this game a lot more fun and challenging.
Tip 2: A fun way to play is to give each child one paddle and one balloon and see who can use the paddle to keep their balloon up in the air the longest. It is always fun to watch the kids (and adults!) twist and jump to keep the balloon from hitting the ground.
Tip 3: If you are playing this with a lot of kids, you can award prizes or ribbons for the winners.
🤷🏻♀️Craft FAQs
Do you need to flatten the paper plate?
It is not required, but if you don't the plate may curl up, making it harder to hit the balloon. You can always let it dry and see how it looks.
Do I need white paint since the plate is already white?
No, you do not. You can use red and blue paint and leave the plate blank for the white stripe.
Can I use glue to attach the popsicle stick?
The tape adheres much better and insures that the stick won't come unattached while playing.
