The recipe I am going to share is one of my favorite muffin recipes. These are genuinely the best Banana Crumb Muffins I have ever tasted. The crumbly, crunchy topping just takes these tasty muffins to another level.

In the past, we have made Banana Nut Muffins and Instant Pot Banana Bread and both are AMAZING! But these muffins are addictive!

⭐Why These Are The Best Banana Crumb Muffins

    • Crumb topping - sure, you can have a normal banana muffin, but the crunchy sweet topping on these muffins, make them so much better!
    • Great way to use over-ripe bananas
    • Make a great breakfast or snack

    🥣Ingredient Notes

    • Mashed ripe bananas - ripe bananas add extra sweetness and are easier to mash.
    • Vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon - add rich, arm flavors to the muffins.
    • Butter - Use the best quality butter you can afford. I love baking with grass-fed butter because it has a richer flavor than regular butter.
    • Brown sugar - Used for the streusel topping.

    📋Step by Step Instructions

STEP 1: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. While you are waiting for it to warm up, grease a muffin tin or two.

STEP 2: Peel and mash ripe bananas and set aside. You still want to leave some chunks in the mashed bananas.

STEP 4: In another bowl, combine the mashed bananas, white sugar, egg, vanilla, and melted butter.

STEP 6: Scoop batter into muffin tins. This recipe makes 14 muffins so you can evenly divide the batter among 14 muffin cups.

STEP 7: To make the streusel topping for these banana crumb muffins, you will mix together ⅓ cup of brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of flour and ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon. Using a fork or pastry cutter, cut in 2 tablespoons of butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.

See if you don't agree that these are the best ever banana muffins with streusel topping.

    👩🏻‍🍳Expert Tips

Tip 1: The batter shouldn't be overmixed because doing so will result in tough muffins. The batter should only be mixed until all the ingredients are combined.

Tip 2: For easy cleanup, use muffin liners. They will make the muffins easier to remove from the pan and make cleanup a breeze.

    🤷🏻‍♀️Recipe FAQs

Can you freeze banana muffins with streusel topping?

Yes, you can! You will want to wait for them to cool completely before freezing them. You can wrap them in plastic wrap or wax paper and place in a zip top bag or container and freeze. When I am ready to eat them, I like to pop them in the microwave for 30 or so seconds. You can also leave them out to thaw at room temperature.

Can you make this recipe into a cake?

Yes, you can. Follow the same recipe and bake for 25-30 minutes (or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean) in a 9x13 cake pan. Double the ingredients for the crumb topping if you are making this into a cake.

How do you store these banana crumb muffins?

You can store these on a counter in an airtight container for up to five days.

We got through A LOT of bananas in our house, too - and I usually have quite a large stockpile of too-brown bananas saved up in my freezer for making smoothies and banana bread. Perfect for trying these muffins! Oh my goodness - that crumb topping is just the perfect finale on top!
