How to make slow cooker pulled pork

To make slow cooker pork, you will start out with a 4 pound pork roast or cut of pork. You will also need some BBQ sauce and root beer. Root beer pulled pork has incredible flavor and moisture. Do me a favor. If you have never tried it before, make this recipe.

Place your pork roast in a crock pot. If you don't have a Crock-Pot already, this one is a great inexpensive option.

Pour ½ bottle of root beer into the crock pot. Cover the pot and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. If you have the time, try and cook it for 8 hours. It just gives the pork more time to soak in the root beer flavor.

Once the pork is done, it is time to shred it. Now you could do this with a fork, and sometimes I do that. But if you really want to be quick and save all the wear and tear on your hands, you'll use shredding claws. These are my favorite shredding claws because they have handles and really make shredding a breeze.

Now it is time to smother that pork in BBQ sauce. If you have a favorite BBQ sauce, feel free to use it here. This is your chance to play up the spice in this recipe. There are so many different varieties and flavors  to choose from. We used Sweet Baby Ray's. Stir the BBQ sauce into the pork.

This pulled pork crock pot recipe will be one that you make again and again. The pork is tender and juicy, and has great flavor. Since it cooks up so quickly, it is perfect for busy days. This is an easy recipe with tasty results, and gives you time to do other things while it cooks.

    Frequently asked questions

What do you serve with shredded pork?

There are a variety of ways to serve this crock pot pulled pork. You can make pulled pork sandwiches and serve with some pickles. It is also great on it's own with a side of potato salad or coleslaw. Potatoes make a great side dish. I like using the leftovers to make pork nachos. Yum!

What kind of root best is best for pulled pork?

You won't regret it. I used Not Your Father's Root Beer because I really like the flavor. Stewart's Root Beer has a great taste as well, but feel free to use whatever you have on hand.

How do you store leftover pulled pork crock pot?

Place in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Beer sounds like a great addition to pulled pork! Love this idea! Do you think this would work well with chicken too?
