It’s apple season! This is one of my favorite times of the year because I love most varieties of apples. This is the time when you might go apple picking or harvest apples if you are lucky enough to have an apple tree. Our apple tree produces a ton of apples this time of year. I always find myself asking “What can I do with lots of apples?” One delicious answer to this question is apple crisp. Apple crisp is one of my favorite desserts and this Easy Apple Crisp Recipe is one that we make often during apple season. The apples are spiced and cooked to perfection and the crumbly topping gives it just the right amount of crunch. Top this with some ice cream and prepare for dessert heaven!

WHAT APPLES ARE BEST FOR APPLE CRISP

You can use a variety of apples but the ones that work best are Granny Smith, Jonagold, Honey Crisp and Braeburn. You want to make sure to use an apple that will not turn mushy when baked.

HOW TO MAKE APPLE CRISP

Before you start assembling your ingredients, you’ll want to preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Peel, core and slice 5 apples. This tool makes it super easy.

Place the sliced apples in a 9×13 inch baking dish or a square baking dish. Combine the white sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of flour, cinnamon and nutmeg in a bowl and sprinkle over the apples. Stir together so that the sugar mixture is evenly distributed.

To make the crumble – the best part of apple crisp – combine the oats with 1/2 cup flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter.

Use a fork to mix these ingredients together until they form a crumble.

Cover the apples with the crumble mixture.

Now if you want to do apple crisp right, you’ll serve it warm and topped with a quality vanilla ice cream. If you want a little extra goodness, drizzle some caramel sauce on top.

The warm spiced apples that have been cooked to perfection and the crisp, sweet toppings, make this the best apple crisp recipe that I have ever tried.

Nothing better than a homemade apple crisp for dessert. In fact, I prefer this to chocolate, anytime!
