One of my favorite meals of the year is Thanksgiving dinner. I think a lot of people share that sentiment. There isn’t another meal that says home, family and tradition more than that one meal. But why should we have to wait a whole year to have it? I have combined the best elements of Thanksgiving dinner in one casserole. This Thanksgiving Dinner Casserole can be prepared the day before and refrigerated, making it a great dish for those days that are packed with after school activities. Don’t you just love quick fix casseroles? If so, be sure to check out our Cheesy Chicken and Broccoli Casserole.

We make this every year INSTEAD of the turkey. Then we also make a bunch of other side dishes and desserts because the oven is available. We also make it at the end of Summer when we are looking forward to the Fall…and we share with our neighbors. They have been known to hint around in September.

Hi, I'm so glad I found this recipe. My Dad is in the hospital and our family couldn't imagine celebrating the holiday without him so my son and I were brainstorming on what we could bring to the hospital that would be easy with little cleanup and would feed our entire family. We didn't want to deal with numerous bowls / dishes etc. While searching I came across your post on pinterest. This looks amazing and I know my Dad would love this. I can't wait to try it !!! Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving !!!

I made this for our monthly pot luck and it was a hit! It's so nice having a self contained meal to present. I bought a Costco chicken and deconstructed it along with a Publix refrigerated mashed potatoes and jarred gravy…easy peasy.

Hi Vicky! This looks so good! Can you tell me what size casserole dish you use for this recipe? I may want to make it this Thanksgiving, but need to know how many times I’ll need to double the ingredients in order to feed the crowd coming. Thanks in advance!

I would probably let the blueberries thaw some so you weren’t getting a lot of extra water in the recipe. The recipes is a basic muffin recipe so I think it would also be good with chocolate chips as well. I have never tried that though but it sounds yummy. We recently made these banana muffins with chocolate chips that the kids might enjoy https://www.messforless.net/banana-muffins-with-chocolate-chips

Thanks Vicky. It was delicious. I used already-made tubs of mashed potatoes from the store to make things easier. I sauteed onion and celery to add into the stuffing that I made in the microwave. I cooked a split turkey breast in crockpot the day beforehand to use in this recipe. I made a large dish and then made a smaller dish minus the turkey for my daughter. We had corn, green beans, sweet potatoes and rolls with this, and pie for dessert. The meal was very filling and the whole family loved it.

Thanks for the great idea. How does this recipe hold up in the freezer? Making a turkey dinner for just my husband and myself means a LOT of Turkey leftovers.

Hi Moria, Thanks for stopping by. I have never tried freezing it before so I am not sure how it would hold up. My hunch is it would be fine. If you try it, I would love to hear how it works out. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

I make a similar version of this every year with leftovers that I call Thanksgiving Shepard’s Pie. I start with a layer of dressing, next is left over turkey topped with gravy, then leftover veggies and lastly, mashed potatoes. After it’s heated through, I add some shredded sharp cheddar to the top and put back in oven until cheese melts. It’s almost better than Thanksgiving dinner!
