These Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies are a family favorite. Made with almond meal, they have a soft center, slightly crunchy edges, and a rich nutty flavor, made all the better by gooey chocolate chips. Whether you're gluten-free or not, this is one of those cookie recipes you will make again and again.

These cookies are so good that we served them to some non-gluten-free folks, and they thought they were great and were shocked when we told them it was a gluten-free recipe.

Why You’ll Love Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

    • Quick and Easy: Perfect for busy parents since they are ready in just 25 minutes.
    • Kids Can Help: My kids helped to make this recipe, and they had a blast doing it!
    • Gluten Free and Delicious: Even those who don't follow a gluten-free diet won't miss regular cookies.
    • Kid and Family Approved: Even picky eaters love these!
    • Nutty Flavor: The almond meal adds a rich, nutty taste.
    • Customizable: You can use caramel chips or add in chopped nuts or dried fruit.

Ingredients for Almond Meal Chocolate Chip Cookies

    • Almond meal: Makes the cookies gluten-free.
    • Butter: For a rich, buttery taste in every bite.
    • Sugar: Adds sweetness and helps make those golden edges.
    • Eggs: Keep everything perfectly held together.
    • Vanilla extract: My go-to for enhancing all the flavors and adding warmth.
    • Chocolate chips: Both milk chocolate and white chocolate for pockets of chocolate in every bite.

Kitchen Tools for Gluten Free Cookies

No fancy equipment is needed for this recipe. You'll need a hand or stand mixer if you want to make creaming the butter and sugar easy. Grab a large mixing bowl and a baking sheet. A cookie scoop ensures you get even cookies.

How To Make Almond Meal Chocolate Chip Cookies

    1. Preheat your oven: Set it to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper while it warms up.

        2. Cream butter and sugar: Do this until the butter and sugar are smooth and creamy. This step is key for a great cookie!

        3. Add eggs and vanilla: Mix until well combined.

        4. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix almond meal, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.

        5. Fold in chocolate chips: Stir in the chocolate chips. Make sure to add plenty - every bite deserves some chocolate!

        child stirring cookie batter

        6. Scoop and shape cookies: I like to use a cookie scoop since it helps all my cookies to be the same size. Press them down slightly for those golden, crispy edges.

        7. Bake: Place the cookies in the oven and bake for 12–15 minutes. You’ll know they’re ready when the edges turn golden and your kitchen smells amazing!

        8. Cool and enjoy: You'll want to eat these right away, but trust me, let them cook for a few minutes.

Tips for Making Gluten Free Cookies

Tip 1: Room temperature butter helps it cream smoothly with the sugar, ensuring soft cookies.

Tip 2: If your dough is too sticky, chill it in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before scooping.

Tip 3: Don’t overbake. Gluten-free cookies can dry out quickly, so keep an eye on them!

        Ingredients

        • 3 cups of almond meal
        • ½ cup of room temperature butter
        • ½ cup of sugar
        • 2 eggs
        • ½ teaspoon of salt
        • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
        • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
        • ½ cup of chocolate chips
        • ½ cup white chocolate chips

        Instructions

        • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream the butter and sugar together until the mixture is smooth.
        • Add in the eggs and mix.
        • Add the almond meal next.
        • Now add the vanilla, baking soda and salt and mix until blended.
        • Finally, add your chips and mix so they are evenly distributed.
        • Place a sheet of parchment paper on a baking sheet and drop spoonfuls of cookie dough a few inches apart. Push down each of the dough balls to get a flatter cookie.
        • Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes. You will want to take them out when they appear golden brown.

        Notes

        • Use room temperature butter to cream smoothly with sugar for soft cookies.
        • Chill sticky dough in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before scooping.
        • Avoid overbaking; gluten-free cookies dry out quickly, so watch them closely.
These figures are estimates and can vary depending on specific ingredients and portion sizes used. Always double-check the packaging of ingredients and consult where necessary.
