How to Make Crockpot Shredded BBQ Chicken
Place the boneless, skinless chicken breasts at the bottom of your crockpot. Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne evenly over the chicken. Pour the barbecue sauce over the seasoned chicken, ensuring it's well-covered.

Set your crockpot to cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 6-8 hours. Once the cooking time is up, use two forks to shred the chicken directly in the crockpot. Mix the shredded chicken with the sauce to ensure it's well-coated.

Serve the BBQ chicken on buns with slaw, pickles, or any other toppings you like.

Tips for Making BBQ Chicken Recipe
Tip 1: You can customize the heat in this dish. If you prefer more spice, add more cayenne pepper or a splash of hot sauce.
Tip 2: Use a meat thermometer to check that the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. This guarantees it's fully cooked and safe to eat.
Tip 3: Extras make great leftovers, especially for a chicken sandwich. This is also a wonderful recipe to use for meal prepping.
How To Store Leftover BBQ Chicken?
Any leftover slow cooker BBQ chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. If you need it to last longer, you can freeze it for up to three months. When ready to eat, simply reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop until warmed through.
Can You Use Frozen Chicken Breasts In A Slow Cooker?
People use frozen chicken breasts in crockpot cooking, but to be on the safe side, I prefer to thaw chicken. The main reason is food safety. Cooking frozen chicken in a crockpot can keep it in the "danger zone" (40°F to 140°F) for too long, potentially leading to bacterial growth.
Thawed or fresh chicken, on the other hand, will heat up more quickly, so it spends less time at unsafe temperatures. Plus, using thawed or fresh chicken results in more even cooking, making sure your dish turns out tender and juicy every time.
How Can I Serve BBQ Chicken Crockpot Recipe?
You can serve this BBQ chicken on buns or in a variety of dishes. For a tasty Mexican-inspired meal, add BBQ chicken to tacos along with your favorite toppings like shredded lettuce, cheese, and salsa.
It also works great in salads for a protein-packed, flavorful addition. Simply add it to a salad with mixed greens, corn, black beans, avocado, and a tangy ranch dressing.
For a hearty option, top baked potatoes with BBQ chicken, cheese, sour cream, and chives. You can also get creative by using BBQ chicken as a pizza topping. The possibilities are endless, so get creative and enjoy this BBQ chicken in a variety of meals!
