HOW TO EASILY SHRED CHICKEN

After the cook time has ended, shred the chicken with two forks or use these shredding claws. These are so much easier on the hands and make the shredding job a lot quicker.

When you shred the chicken, it will absorb any leftover liquid.

Add in the chunks of cut up Philadelphia Cream Cheese, bacon and shredded cheddar cheese. Stir all of the ingredients together.

I am so offended you would use a street drug in the name of this receipt ! You obviously have not suffered the heartbreak of addiction in your family or you would not glorify “crack” in this way.

Clearly they call it “crack” chicken meaning it’s addicting. It’s not glorifying a street drug, If you don’t like the name it’s pretty simple…don’t cook it or call it something else. Take your offense elsewhere you sensitive snowflake!

Agreed Travis…. the name is in reference to the fact that once you’ve had it you’ll want it again and again…. Should we not say Crack the whip??? Or Crack an egg simply because the word Crack is in it??? I think not. I am sorry that someone took offense to this. Yes, drug addiction is a very detrimental thing but not enough to lash out at people for the name of a recipe.

    • Snowflake Buster says

      February 9, 2019 at 10:11 am

Please stop. We all know someone suffering from addiction and if a title to a recipe triggers you then you need therapy. Did you try the recipe or not? Giving it 1 star because of the title and not the taste says more about you than it does the dish.

Crack chicken is a type of preparation. You just put it in your pipe (the crock pot) and let the addiction soak in. Best served while screening “New Jack City”.

Ive had family members with drug addiction and not once do I associate “crack” with a good recipe and get offended. Seriously?? That’s right along there with hair “braid appropriation”, not trying to be rude but if this sensitivity is what the future generations are gonna be accustomed to then we are all in trouble.

How is this Keto when the dry ranch dressing has maltodextrin?

    • Lauren says

      March 15, 2019 at 5:38 pm

      1 star
Agreed! If anything it makes it extra opposite of Keto because of the insulin release associated with maltodextrin MSG and modified food starch! The rest of the recipe sounds tasty and you could just use your own seasonings and keep it keto friendly. Easy fix. Just leave out the ranch.

      • Jodie H says

        May 23, 2019 at 6:59 am

Thanks, Jodi and Lauren, for catching this! Maltodextrin is a deal-breaker.
To get the same flavor, do a search for “make your own ranch seasoning” and use the buttermilk powder, herbs and other ingredients listed there. The result for this awesome-looking chicken recipe should taste exactly the same, and I’m looking forward to making a big batch of it for an after-church brunch Sunday!

How much is a serving? In ounces or cups or whatever.

  13. Kim LaMendola says

    February 1, 2019 at 8:45 am

My guess would be 5-6ounces per serving. You have 2 lbs of chicken = 32 ounces. Then add 8 oz of cream cheese and 1/2 cup of shredded cheese is another 2 ounces. So 42 ounces so far without the liquid. 1/2 c of broth is another 4 ounces. So 46 ounces total. Divide 46 ounces by 8 servings would be somewhere between 5 and 6. Not sure if there is any shrinkage of weight due to cooking of the meat or broth. I’m just now cooking this for the first time.

No. Just no. Seriously trying to figure out how to salvage this mush. I followed the recipe to the T. Way too much broth. Way over cooked (and I stopped the slow cooker an hour early). This is just a salty (and I used unsalted broth) paradoxically bland mess of goo.

I could have used these beautiful chicken breasts for schnitzel and I destroyed them. Not happy.

    • Jen says

      March 3, 2019 at 7:17 pm

Maybe you were expecting something else? It IS shredded chicken. You could easily use less broth or remove some before mixing in the other ingredients. I made it tonight, and my daughter found it difficult to stop eating – it was so good!

I made this tonight, and it was delicious! And so easy! I planned to use my crockpot, but got home much later than planned and didn’t have time to let it cook for 4 hours. So I used my pressure cooker instead! 15 minutes and I had perfect chicken! Then I switched it to the slow cooker setting to add everything else in. I served this over cauliflower rice with a side of steamed broccoli, and it was a hit! I will be making this again!

  18. J6 says

It isn’t, and I caught that too, guessing author doesn’t realize maltodextrin is a sugar, but in all fairness how many people really do? I call honest mistake.
I’m going to give this a shot as a substitute…

What makes this not so keto is the ranch packet. MSG or modified food starch causes increased insulin release, opposite of keto.

I made some adjustments based on the reviews:

3 chicken breasts in the crockpot on high for 3 hours (plenty of time)
Drained all liquids prior to shredding chicken
Used approx half the cream cheese recipe called for
Added dash of salt and pepper
    Added chives

I am new to the Keto Lifestyle and saw this recipe and was super pumped to make it, BUT, I noticed Maltodextrin listed as the first ingredient. This means it’s still going to have an effect on Insulin, correct? As I said, I’m a newbie, so please know that absolutely no offense is intended by these questions.

I have questions about the nutrition breakdown that is listed. How does one come by just 1g of Carbs per serving? I am not a math whiz, but did some quick calculations and came up with the following:

Hidden Valley Ranch packet contains 1g of Carbs per serving and there are 16 servings in the package, which means that using the whole packet in this recipe results in 16g of Carbs.

The Cream Cheese has 2g of Carbs per 1oz serving and there are 8 servings per container, perfect for what the recipe calls for, but this also means that there are 16g of Carbs from the Cream Cheese alone.

When you add that to the total carbs from the ranch packet, you’re up to 32g of Carbs. This does not include the carbs from any of the other ingredients. So, if this recipe yields 8 servings, then the carbs per serving, just based off of the 2 ingredients I mentioned above, would be 4g. This number would only increase depending on the type of chicken broth, bacon, and cheddar cheese used.

Perhaps I am missing something? I noticed that Fiber wasn’t noted on the nutrition label given, but maybe it is there and the math is already done? Meaning that the carbs listed are actually the net carbs? Otherwise, I just don’t see how this is only 1 carb per serving. Any thoughts?

      June 10, 2019 at 11:57 am

The carb breakdown with the HVRD is with it prepared with milk etc not dry packet- the dry packet technically has zero carbs. But as the others have said that the ranch dressing contains ingredients that make it not Keto friendly. Hope this helps.

Made this tonight, but added 4 oz. of mild Hatch chilies and served over riced cauliflower. Wonderful.

I absolutely LOVE this recipe!!! My friend and I thought it would cook slow by multicooker standards. Boy were we wrong! It was cooked in no time flat! We let it cook completely down and then followed the directions. It was a little too thick to stir. Still good though! Made it again last night, but doubled it and left some of the broth mix. Then added other ingredients. Made stirring a WHOLE lot more simple! It was creamy and amazingly good! My daughter made a wrap out of it while my son, husband and I ate it plain on a plate. So good!!! I’ve been eating it today with whole wheat Ritz. My family and I love it!! Thank you for this AMAZING recipe!!!

And I didn’t cook bacon. I bought a small bag of bacon pieces, NOT BITS! It was the perfect amount! Not too salty and you could still taste it!

If you want a chicken mush that only tastes like salt, go for it. Will never waste the money making this again.

Based on measurements it looks like serving size may be 2 cups of chicken. However I only divided 3lbs of chicken by 8 servings which seems to be the only thing listed for serving info.
