🥘Why You'll Love Keto Crack Chicken in the Crock Pot
- The Crock Pot does all the work. Just set it and forget it!
- Creamy texture, cheesy flavor and bacon - 'nuff said!
- This chicken recipe can be served in a variety of ways - in a tortilla, lettuce cup or over some rice if not on a keto plan.
🥣Ingredient Notes
- Chicken broth - You can use homemade or canned. Low-sodium chicken broth is fine if you are watching your salt intake.
- Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning packet - This is the kind you would use to make salad dressing. You can also make your own ranch seasoning with this recipe from Mad Creations.
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts - Defrosted. I get 100% grass-fed beef; free-range organic chicken from Butcher Box. They have amazing prices. You can also use skinless chicken thighs.
- Cream Cheese - Be sure to use full-fat cream cheese and it makes the chicken creamier. Cut the cream cheese into chunks.
- Bacon - Make sure the bacon is cooked and crumbled before adding it to the keto crack chicken in the crock pot.
- Shredded cheddar cheese - If you are on a low-carb diet, it is better to grate your own cheese.
📋How to Make Keto Crack Chicken Crockpot
STEP 1: Add chicken broth to the slow cooker and stir in a Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix. Then add defrosted chicken breasts to the crock pot.

STEP 2: Cover and cook for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low.

STEP 3: After the cook time has ended, shred chicken with two forks or use these shredding claws. These are so much easier on the hands and make the shredding job a lot quicker.
When you shred the chicken, it will absorb any leftover liquid.

STEP 4: Add in the chunks of Philadelphia Cream Cheese, bacon and shredded cheddar cheese. Stir all of the ingredients together.

STEP 5: Cover the crock pot again and leave in for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cream cheese has melted.

If you are not that concerned about carbs, and are just looking for a yummy meal idea, try serving this with a side of rice or pasta.

The carb breakdown with the HVRD is with it prepared with milk etc not dry packet- the dry packet technically has zero carbs. But as the others have said that the ranch dressing contains ingredients that make it not Keto friendly. Hope this helps.

I am new to the Keto Lifestyle and saw this recipe and was super pumped to make it, BUT, I noticed Maltodextrin listed as the first ingredient. This means it's still going to have an effect on Insulin, correct? As I said, I'm a newbie, so please know that absolutely no offense is intended by these questions.
I have questions about the nutrition breakdown that is listed. How does one come by just 1g of Carbs per serving? I am not a math whiz, but did some quick calculations and came up with the following:
Hidden Valley Ranch packet contains 1g of Carbs per serving and there are 16 servings in the package, which means that using the whole packet in this recipe results in 16g of Carbs.
The Cream Cheese has 2g of Carbs per 1oz serving and there are 8 servings per container, perfect for what the recipe calls for, but this also means that there are 16g of Carbs from the Cream Cheese alone.
When you add that to the total carbs from the ranch packet, you're up to 32g of Carbs. This does not include the carbs from any of the other ingredients. So, if this recipe yields 8 servings, then the carbs per serving, just based off of the 2 ingredients I mentioned above, would be 4g. This number would only increase depending on the type of chicken broth, bacon, and cheddar cheese used.
Perhaps I am missing something? I noticed that Fiber wasn't noted on the nutrition label given, but maybe it is there and the math is already done? Meaning that the carbs listed are actually the net carbs? Otherwise, I just don't see how this is only 1 carb per serving. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Jodi and Lauren, for catching this! Maltodextrin is a deal-breaker.
To get the same flavor, do a search for “make your own ranch seasoning” and use the buttermilk powder, herbs and other ingredients listed there. The result for this awesome-looking chicken recipe should taste exactly the same, and I’m looking forward to making a big batch of it for an after-church brunch Sunday!

Crack chicken is a type of preparation. You just put it in your pipe (the crock pot) and let the addiction soak in. Best served while screening "New Jack City".

What is the individual serving size?
Samantha
Hidden Valley ranch is NOT keto friendly.
Britt
YUM!
I made some adjustments based on the reviews:
3 chicken breasts in the crockpot on high for 3 hours (plenty of time)
Drained all liquids prior to shredding chicken
Used approx half the cream cheese recipe called for
Added dash of salt and pepper
Added chives
So happy with how it turned out!
Jou
I’m curious too! On my fitness pal it shows this recipe as 1/2 cup servings AND full cup servings. I need to know which is correct.
Cindy
I made this last night for supper and it was a big hit with both the keto and non-keto followers ! I served it with salad along with riced cauliflower (keto) and rice (non-keto) . So easy , so delicious...definitely a keeper , thanks for sharing ! 🙂
Cindy
Thank you for sharing this recipe...it sounds amazing ! My son-in-law is on the keto diet and it's hard to find recipes with no carbs . I also love slow cooker recipes and will definitely be making this in the near future ! 🙂
Lauren
Agreed! If anything it makes it extra opposite of Keto because of the insulin release associated with maltodextrin MSG and modified food starch! The rest of the recipe sounds tasty and you could just use your own seasonings and keep it keto friendly. Easy fix. Just leave out the ranch.
Lauren
What makes this not so keto is the ranch packet. MSG or modified food starch causes increased insulin release, opposite of keto.
J6
It isn't, and I caught that too, guessing author doesn't realize maltodextrin is a sugar, but in all fairness how many people really do? I call honest mistake.
I'm going to give this a shot as a substitute...

Hopefully this turns out really well!
Jen
I made this tonight, and it was delicious! And so easy! I planned to use my crockpot, but got home much later than planned and didn't have time to let it cook for 4 hours. So I used my pressure cooker instead! 15 minutes and I had perfect chicken! Then I switched it to the slow cooker setting to add everything else in. I served this over cauliflower rice with a side of steamed broccoli, and it was a hit! I will be making this again!
Jen
Maybe you were expecting something else? It IS shredded chicken. You could easily use less broth or remove some before mixing in the other ingredients. I made it tonight, and my daughter found it difficult to stop eating - it was so good!
Jen
I just made this tonight, and we thought it was delicious!
Some pretty decent cook
No. Just no. Seriously trying to figure out how to salvage this mush. I followed the recipe to the T. Way too much broth. Way over cooked (and I stopped the slow cooker an hour early). This is just a salty (and I used unsalted broth) paradoxically bland mess of goo.
I could have used these beautiful chicken breasts for schnitzel and I destroyed them. Not happy.
Tamara
Agreed Travis.... the name is in reference to the fact that once you’ve had it you’ll want it again and again.... Should we not say Crack the whip??? Or Crack an egg simply because the word Crack is in it??? I think not. I am sorry that someone took offense to this. Yes, drug addiction is a very detrimental thing but not enough to lash out at people for the name of a recipe.
Shannon
I followed recipe to a tee but it did not come out good at all. Maybe I did something wrong but this recipe tasted very bad.
